Workshop·Live, one to one·Two classes · two hours

Poetic perception

One live meeting, one to one. The time is arranged with you. Pretty images are not collected. You follow what holds the shape, and bring that into a short text.

The form you see is a pause.

Ground

Copying the outline repeats it. Following what holds the shape is what lets you compose.

Aim

  1. Stop taking a known shape as if it were the poem.
  2. Look at one thing as a passage, not as a block.
  3. Write a short text with what moves, not with the name of the shape.

It trains

Look at what holds the form, before writing.

Contents

1Look before you write
1.1Not a destiny

The form you see is not an essence. It is a moment.

1.2Do not copy the mold

Imitating what already looks like a poem leaves the gaze still.

1.3What holds it

The question is not how it looks. It is what is keeping it that way.

2Form is a passage
2.1A pause

What looks still is a pattern that, for a moment, holds.

2.2Not a block

A thing is a phase, not a closed object.

2.3The trajectory

You follow the path, not the outline.

3Bring it into the text
3.1One thing

Looked at long enough. Not a whole landscape.

3.2What moves

You write that, not the name of the form.

3.3Without closing it

A short text that does not shut the thing as if it were already explained.

Questions

Is it a theory class?

No. You look at one thing and you write. The idea is for that.

Is it like step by step?

Step by step walks four phases. This one stays with the looking, before composing.

Is it a video?

No. It is live, one to one. The time is arranged by email.

What if I don't think of myself as a poet?

You don't have to. The work is a text of yours. A short draft is enough. If there is no poem, one sentence is enough.

It is live, one to one, on Zoom. The time is arranged by email.
