Workshop·Live, one to one·Two classes · two hours
Voice in the act

One live meeting, one to one. The time is arranged with you. You write from this scene, not from an idea of who you are. The voice is read afterwards, in what remained.
If it is not brought out, you do not know what is there.
Ground
A voice announced in advance is a costume. The voice that matters is the one the lines already have.
Aim
- Let go of waiting to find your voice before you write.
- Write a scene from now, without a speech about who you are.
- Read the voice the text kept, not the one that was announced.
It trains
Write from this scene, without announcing who you are.
Contents
1It is not found first
1.1A wait
“Finding your voice” is often a way of not writing.
1.2A costume
Announcing it in advance is a suit. It is not the voice of the text.
1.3If it is not brought out
You do not know what is there. Expression is the door.
2This scene
2.1Now
The material is this scene, not an explained biography.
2.2Without the speech
You do not write who you are. You write what is happening.
2.3The imitation
A borrowed sadness, to sound like a poet, is not the voice.
3What remained
3.1One page
You write from here, without correcting the identity.
3.2Read it
The voice is the one the text has, not the one you wanted.
3.3Practice it
It is not owned. It is done again.
Questions
What if I still do not have a voice?
You do not wait. You write a scene from now and read what remained.
What do I need to know first?
Nothing. A finished poem is not required.
Is it a video?
No. It is live, one to one. The time is arranged by email.
What if I don't think of myself as a poet?
You don't have to. The work is a text of yours. A short draft is enough. If there is no poem, one sentence is enough.
It is live, one to one, on Zoom. The time is arranged by email.
