Arch, bridge, trampoline, spring, and hook

The poem is not held up by loose images alone. It is also held by tensions that move the reader from one point to another.

  1. The arch is the story underneath. The macro-arch crosses the whole poem. The micro-arch opens a shorter cycle inside it.
  2. The bridge joins the end of one part to the start of the next, and leaves the expectation open.
  3. The trampoline jumps to a stretch that is not next door. The connection arrives later.
  4. The spring can be anywhere, and it sends you forward or back, without asking for a linear order.
  5. The hook opens. An image, a question, a break. It catches at the first contact.

Together they make an architecture: continuity and rupture, predictability and surprise. The craft is to orchestrate that path, not to decorate it.
